At Cosmetic & Family Dentistry, we offer implant retained dentures to our patients looking for a good alternative to more traditional dentures.
What are implant retained dentures?
Unlike traditional dentures, implant retained dentures aren’t removable, but instead are held in place by an implant. This implant acts as the new ‘root’ for the denture, holding it in place and offering more stability.
Why should I choose implant retained dentures?
The choice of dentures is, of course, a highly personal one, but you might be considering implant retained dentures because they provide greater stability than traditional dentures.
Traditional removable dentures can become loose and uncomfortable for the wearer, leading to further issues such as problems talking or eating. They can even contribute to the loss of bone in the jaw, resulting in changes to the facial structure.
Implant retained dentures can help maintain the facial structure and allow patients to continue eating and speaking with comfort – all without having to worry about messy adhesives.
What is the treatment for getting implant retained dentures like?
From consultation to results, the treatment for implant retained dentures can take between four and seven months. This is because we must allow time for the implants to fuse with the jawbone before affixing the final, permanent dentures. During this time, you’ll be fitted with temporary dentures.
