Saving Children’s Damaged Teeth

During play, children are prone to suffering a chipped or damaged tooth. But in many cases, the tooth can be saved or repaired if you act quickly. Whether the tooth is just loosened or chipped or even knocked out, there are procedures to follow to remedy the situation.

  • Contact the child’s dentist immediately.
  • If the tooth is broken, save the broken part.
  • Save the tooth (or broken portion) in milk or Hank’s Balanced Salt Solution.

For loosened teeth, a dentist “must address any variety of tooth movement within 24 hours” and can often fix the tooth fairly easily. More information on damage to children’s teeth can be found at https://health.clevelandclinic.org/what-to-do-if-your-child-chips-loosens-or-loses-a-tooth/.
