Here at Cosmetic & Family Dentistry, we can perform root canal treatments for any of our patients suffering from an infection at the centre of the tooth.

What is a root canal treatment?

Root canal treatments are a treatment wherein we remove an infection that may have taken root at the centre of your tooth in what is often referred to as the dental pulp. The treatment is administered under local anaesthetic, so you won’t feel anything while it is happening.

First, we’ll make a small hole in the tooth, then we’ll irrigate and disinfect the tooth, removing any infected dental pulp. We’ll then fill the tooth with a temporary filling so that you can return to the practice later to make sure all the infection has been removed. When this has been determined, we’ll provide you with a permanent filling.

How do I know if I need a root canal treatment?

Some symptoms of infection include pain when biting down or a loose tooth. To determine whether there is infection present or not, we’ll first perform an X-ray here at the practice.

Why might I need a root canal treatment?

The main cause of needing a root canal treatment is an infection of the dental pulp found in the centre of the tooth. This is often caused by decay but can also come about because of injury or, in some cases, a leaky filling.
