At Cosmetic & Family Dentistry, we always try to promote non-invasive dentistry wherever possible, but there are some instances where tooth extraction is necessary.

Why might I need a tooth extraction?

We may well recommend a tooth extraction due to overcrowding in the mouth, a damaged or decayed tooth that is beyond repair, or impacted wisdom teeth. It might also be necessary for baby teeth that haven’t yet fallen out when adult teeth begin to erupt.

What is the treatment for a tooth extraction like?

You will be placed under local anaesthetic for the treatment so you won’t feel any pain or discomfort. We’ll then gently loosen the tooth and widen the socket so the tooth can easily be removed. We may then have to give you some stitches to aid with healing.

Some tips for aftercare:

  • Avoid hot or cold drinks until the anaesthetic has worn off
  • Take over the counter pain killers if experiencing pain
  • Bite down on gauze or cotton wool if bleeding
  • If pain persists after a few days, please contact us here at the practice
