What is a ‘Dead’ Tooth?

A ‘dead’ tooth no longer has blood flow and can result from trauma (a fall) or decay (bacteria causes the nerve to die).
- It is difficult to identify a dead tooth without expert assessment; a dentist will need to examine the tooth and sometimes an X-ray will be required
- Your dentist will always try to save a dead tooth if possible, for instance with root canal treatment
- If your dead tooth needs to be removed, you can have a dental implant to replace the extracted tooth
